Boulder County, Colo. – Beginning tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 14, crews contracted by Boulder County will begin clearing roadways of damaged and destroyed vehicles and trailers, trees, and other debris that are blocking access to properties in burn areas. Vehicles will be taken to a secured storage facility and will be part of a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) clearing process. Vehicle owners and their insurance companies wishing to access this storage facility to look at a vehicle should send an email to ROE@bouldercounty.org or call 303-214-3203.  

The Right of Way (ROW) removal work will happen in zones (see map of zones) and will take place in the following order: 

1. Sagamore (S1) 
2. Old Town Superior (S2) 
3. Harper Lake (L1) 
4. Mulberry (L3) 
5. Rock Creek (S3) 
6. Coal Creek (L4) 
7. The Enclave (L2) 
8. Davidson Mesa (U1)
   

This marks the beginning of phase 2 of the county’s debris removal program. Phase 1 was the deployment of dumpsters for the cleanup of spoiled food. Due to dozens of requests for more support with this effort, spoiled food dumpsters will be reset in Louisville, Superior, and unincorporated Boulder County on Jan. 14 and 15 for those who were unable to access homes initially in order to clear out refrigerators and freezers. Phase 2b will take place after rights of way have been cleared (exact dates to be determined). This part will entail a curbside collection of smoke- and wind-damaged items from properties that were not fire-damaged or who have minimal fire damage in their yard. Items like fencing, patio furniture, trampolines, and large vegetative waste will be accepted. Additional details about how to sort your items for curbside pickup will be published in advance, as we want to ensure that as much of this debris gets recycled as possible. Unfortunately, this program cannot collect ash or any bagged refuse during this curbside program. Property owners are encouraged to contact their insurance companies about ash remediation work as it should be conducted by a trained professional.

Phase 3 of the debris removal program involves work at individual properties destroyed by the fire. If you haven’t already, please complete a Right of Entry form to either opt in or out of the program. It is critical that we receive the completed form from all impacted residents, whether opting in or out. The deadline for opting in or out of the debris removal program is 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26. Learn more about the debris removal program by visiting https://boco.org/marshall-debris-cleanup. It is imperative that people with destroyed homes/structures complete the form as soon as possible so that the county can move forward with planning for debris removal at individual properties. We are hopeful the program will commence in February. It will take approximate six months to completely clear many properties, but it could take up to 18 months to clear others that present environmental and structural challenges.
